If you are using WordPress platform to publish your blog, by now you are probably aware that WordPress server will “ping” several websites whenever you post a new blog. By pinging you let other services such Google, Bing and other blog reporting services such as Technorati that you new content on your website. Pinging will get your content indexed quickly and many times it will get you free link from other websites.

By default, WordPress will ping to rpc.pingomatic.com which in turn pings other services. It is a good idea to have your own list of ping servers so that you reach out to more sites. Here is a list of ping servers you can add. This list was put together in 2010.

To update your ping list, go to Settings -> Writing options in WordPress control panel. Add these servers to Update Services box.
